Fire crews, Consumers Energy rush to address gas leak found near Plymouth construction site

PLYMOUTH (WWJ) - Police and firefighters are currently at the scene of a reported gas leak on Tuesday morning at a construction site in Plymouth, officials confirmed.

The Plymouth Police Department said around 9:10 a.m. on December 19 that city fire crews are addressing a gas leak near Starkweather Street and the railroad tracks.

Starkweather is currently closed from Liberty to Pearl Streets with drivers urged to avoid the area or use Mill Street as a detour route.

The cause of the gas leak is unclear, but officials said no injuries were reported.

Consumers Energy is expected to work on repairs. There is no current timeframe for how long work will take or for how long the road closure will remain in effect.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
