PORTAGE, Mich. (WWJ) - Shoppers and guests at Crossroads Mall in Portage were forced to evacuate Friday evening after police said a bomb threat on the location was called in.

Portage Department of Public Safety said via WOOD 8 that the threat was received around 6 p.m. May 6 to the mall located south of Kalamazoo on S. Westnedge Avenue near Romence Road.

Officials said mall security evacuated the building by turning on the mall's fire alarms; no one was injured as people exited the mall.

K-9 units with the Michigan State Police and Western Michigan University were on scene with bomb-detecting dogs, WOOD 8 reported.

Authorities said the Crossroads Mall will remain closed throughout the evening and people have been asked to avoid the area.

No further details were released; the investigation remains on going.
