(WWJ) A Dearborn Heights man is facing multiple charges after it's alleged he drove away from the scene of a fight in a Dearborn Police Department patrol car.
Peter Michael Oleary, 43, was arrested shortly after the incident early in the morning of Friday, Aug. 13.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Dearborn Police responded at around 1:45 a.m. to a bar in the 22140 block of Outer Drive about a large fight in the parking lot.
While officers were busy investigating the incident, prosecutors said Oleary stole a marked patrol vehicle.
Police pursued the man in a brief chase before he crashed into a parked car at Beaumont Hospital and was taken into custody.
Oleary was arraigned in 19th District Court Monday on one count each of Fleeing and Eluding, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, Unlawfully Driving Away an Automobile, and Reckless Driving.
Bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety and a probable cause conference in the case was scheduled for Aug. 27.
Last week, Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said his department was looking into how something like this could happen.
"Clearly, this outcome is not one that is anticipated from a well-trained workforce. It is another reminder that I do not exist in a perfect world," Haddad said in a statement, adding: "An investigation into this matter in its entirety is ongoing."
