ANN ABOR TWP. (WWJ) -- A Dearborn Heights man has died after a flying tire collapsed the roof of his car on I-94.
According to Michigan State Police, it happened at around 4 p.m. Tuesday, in the area I-94 and State St., in Ann Arbor Township.
Investigators with the MSP Brighton Post determined that a 38-year-old Jackson man was driving westbound on I-94 when the front driver's side tire broke detached from his Dodge Journey.
The tire went flying over the median wall onto the eastbound freeway, where it hit a Chevy Malibu driven by a 49-year-old man from Dearborn Heights.
The tire hit the Malibu's windshield and roof on the driver's side, police said; the impact causing the roof to cave on the Malibu driver's head.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
