(WWJ) -- A nearly two-day long search for a Dearborn Heights man--who went missing on a boat trip Sunday evening on Lake Erie--has come to a tragic end.
The body of the man--identified as 59-year-old Ghaleb Assaf-- was discovered Tuesday.
The sheriff's office and other local authorities had been looking for him since he went into the lake, off the boat, and never resurfaced. They said he was swimming with friends at the time.
Officials say the boat was about a mile from the shore of Sterling State Park when he disappeared.
His friends on the boat called 911, but the search was called off due to Sunday evening's bad weather.
The Frenchtown Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division and Dive Team all participated in the search.
Anyone with more information on the situation is urged to call Monroe Central Dispatch at (734) 243-7070.
