DEARBORN (WWJ) — Two people remain in custody, while a third has been released pending ongoing investigations, after an apparent road rage shooting in Dearborn last week left a woman dead.
A 19-year-old woman from Dearborn Heights was shot and killed in the area of Tireman Avenue and West Morrow Circle around 9:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21.
Dearborn police officials believe the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident, but exact details have not been released.
In a Wednesday afternoon update, Dearborn police said two of the three “persons of interest” that were detained following the shooting remain in custody on unrelated charges, while the other has been released pending further investigation.
No information about any of the three people detained has been been released. Dearborn police have not publicly identified the woman who was killed.
With the investigation still open, Dearborn police are continuing to follow leads and will submit findings to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for formal charges when it is completed.
A timeline on when charges could be filed is not clear.
“We continue to devote manpower and investigative resources and work with partner agencies to gather evidence in this ongoing investigation,” Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said, per a press release. “Seeking justice and accountability for the victim in this heinous act remains our priority.”
