Food delivery driver from Grand Blanc faces charges in deadly Detroit hit-and-run

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Grand Blanc man is facing multiple charges after it's alleged he hit a woman with this car in Detroit, ultimately killing her, then fled the scene.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Monday announced the case against 25-year-old Joseph Edmond Stewart in connection with the death of 56-year-old Delia Dinwiddie of Detroit.


According to prosecutors, just before 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, Stewart was working for an online food delivery service as he was driving south on Linwood Street.

It's alleged that Stewart hit Dinwiddie as she was on foot on Linwood, near Leslie Street, and didn't pull over.

Dinwiddie was taken to by EMS to a hospital where she died.

Following an investigation, Stewart was arrested by the Genesee County Sheriff's Department and turned over to the Detroit Police Department on June 12.

He was arranged in 36th District Court last Friday on the following charges: Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident When at Fault – Causing Death, Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident – Causing Serious Impairment/Death, and Moving Violation Causing Death.

Each of those charges is a 15-year felony.

Bond for Stewart was set at $100,000 and his next court date, a probable cause conference, was scheduled for June 25.
