(WWJ) There are still some long lines at Detroit Metro Airport's McNamara Terminal, after a network outage with Delta Air Lines led to a ground stop Friday morning.
All flights were grounded until around 8:30 a.m. By around 10:30 a.m., WWJ's Charlie Langton reported things were slowly returning to normal.
Early Friday, Delta Air Lines issued a statement that said: "Due to a connectivity outage in Detroit, Delta has issued a ground stop for all flights at DTW airport this morning. Delta teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and customers should monitor the status of their flight via the Fly Delta app and Delta.com."
The ground stop has since been lifted.
In an update late Friday morning, Delta said: "Delta flights are resuming at Detroit (DTW) following a connectivity issue this morning that has been resolved. Delta has issued a waiver to provide flexibility for customers traveling to, from or through DTW on Dec. 5 and 6. We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers and thank them for their patience as Delta teams work to safely return to normal operations. Customers should continue to monitor the status of their flight via the Fly Delta app and Delta.com, where they can also make adjustments to their itineraries."
Metro Airport officials noted that the situation was specific to Delta and did not impact other airlines at DTW. "We will share updates as they become available. As always, customers should check their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport," the airport statement said.
Langton reported there was a lot of uncertainty, a lot of frustration, and a lot of people sitting on the floor — but most people seemed to be keeping their cool as they waited.
"Chaos, madness, I'm tired, hungry and ready to get home," said one traveler named Ray, who was (hopefully) heading to Vancouver. "There's been no sign of relief, it's getting busier and busier....I have a connecting flight in St. Paul and I have no clue if it's there waiting for me or not."
"We're trying to win big in Vegas and every hour we're delayed we are losing money!" a traveler named Elizabeth told Langton with a laugh.
