DETROIT (WWJ) — Last January Downtown Detroit was more alive than usual, as playoff football came to town for the first time in decades.
It’s back again this year, and downtown will be buzzing even more, with the Detroit Auto Show.
Now Lions fever and the auto show will collide this Friday as the folks at the auto show are planning on hosting a rally ahead of Saturday night’s playoff game against the Washington Commanders.
The “All Roads Lead to Detroit: Celebration of the Detroit Lions at the Detroit Auto Show" rally will be held Friday, Jan. 17 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Grand Riverview Ballroom at Huntington Place.
The community is invited to “honor the Lions and the city’s enduring spirit” Saturday’s game at Ford Field.
The rally will feature appearances by Detroit Lions alumni including Herman Moore, Joique Bell, Cory Schlesinger, Eddie Murray, and TJ Lang, as well as a live concert by Detroit native and Grammy nominated artist Mike Posner.
Attendees are encouraged to wear Lions gear to show support for the team. Lions’ apparel, Made in Detroit and Greyson Clothiers Auto Show merchandise is also available for purchase on the show floor.
Tickets to the special event are $10 each and include entry to the Detroit Auto Show. They are available now at detroitautoshow.com/lions-at-detroit-auto-show/.
The celebration will come at the conclusion of Racing Day at the Detroit Auto Show presented by the Detroit Grand Prix, which gives attendees the opportunity to engage with some of the best drivers in the world including back-to-back Indy 500 Champion Josef Newgarden and Detroit native Nolan Allaer. More info on Racing Day can be found here.
Attendees are encouraged to bring new winter hats, scarves, gloves, and coats to donate to Detroit Public Schools Community District as a part of the Detroit Auto Show’s Driven by Service initiative. Collection bins are located inside Huntington Place.
Friday’s rally is just the latest example of Honolulu Blue pride sweeping across Metro Detroit, including an Auto Show appearance from QB Jared Goff last week.
Earlier this week Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown visited Home Bakery in Rochester to see the giant cake made in his honor and give away a pair of tickets to Saturday’s game.
Detroit police and Oakland County Sheriff’s Department personnel are sporting Lions gear as part of their official uniforms, there’s a push to rename a road in Royal Oak after coach Dan Campbell and just about anywhere you go across the area you’ll find fans wearing Lions gear.
All that pride will be on the line Saturday night as the Lions take on the Commanders, looking to move within one game of the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl appearance.
