OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) -- An alert Southfield housekeeper is being credited with helping police rescue a human trafficking victim.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald has charged 27-year-old Tyria Robinson of Detroit with human trafficking and multiple prostitution offenses. Investigators say the victim traveled from Alabama to Michigan looking for work but was forced into prostitution at a Southfield motel.
The woman managed to escape after asking a housekeeper for help, who immediately called police on September 10th.
“The woman who called the police on behalf of the victim is a hero,” said Prosecutor McDonald. “Trafficking victims are in our communities and often need help escaping their traffickers. Simple actions, such as calling the police when something looks suspicious or asking someone if they need help, can save a victim.”
Robinson is currently held in the Oakland County Jail on a $100,000 bond. She's officially charged with Human Trafficking Enterprise, Prostitution – Transporting, Prostitution – Accepting Earnings, and Prostitution – Pandering.
