DETROIT (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after police officers shot and wounded an armed woman, Thursday afternoon on Detroit's east side.
Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison told reporters that a woman was shooting at a man who was repossessing her car near Nottingham and Grayton streets, in the area of I-94 and Whittier, just before 3 p.m.
Police who were on routine patrol in the area saw what was happening and shot the woman as she continued firing at the repo man, according to the chief.
"Our officers fired shots in the defense of, what we believe, an individual shooting at another person that was unarmed," Bettison said.
The woman was hit multiple times and was taken to a hospital.

She was last listed in temporary serious condition with what Bettison described as non life-threatening injuries.
"Struck in the arm, and maybe the leg, and so she's gonna survive," the chief said. "I'm just happen to report that it could be a lot worse."
Bettison said the investigation is ongoing into whether the woman thought her car was being stolen, as she did say something to that effect.
"We do know that she fired shots," Bettison said. "We have the weapon recovered and also we have shell casings out there, so...a lot of shell casings, a pretty big scene."
No officers were shot, and the repo man wasn't injured.
"Being a repo individual, having that job is a dangerous occupation," Bettison said. "But, you know, a person should never resort to violence over property."
Bettison said detectives are working to find security video from the area to determine exactly what led up to the shooting.
