DETROIT (WWJ) — A Detroit man is facing a long list of felony charges for a shooting that stemmed from a domestic incident and ended with a 2-year-old boy being shot.

Darius Lacey, 25, was arraigned over the weekend on 11 total charges, including attempted murder, home invasion and fleeing and eluding police.

The charges stem from an incident on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at a home on Dickerson — in the Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood on the city’s east side — where the 2-year-old boy lived with his mother, who Lacey has a different child in common with.

Around 5:45 p.m. Detroit police officers in the area spotted Lacey’s car in the area and noticed it had improper plates, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. When they tried to pull him over, he allegedly fled the scene.

About 45 minutes later, Lacey had allegedly returned to the home. During an argument with the child’s mother, he allegedly made his way into the home, pulled out a gun and fired it multiple times, hitting the young boy in the leg.

A family member rushed the child to the hospital, where he received treatment. The boy is expected to make a recovery.

Interim Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said near the scene on Tuesday it appeared the incident involved the suspect and his ex’s new boyfriend. He said it appeared a shootout broke out, with about 15 shell casings found at the scene.

Lacey turned himself in last Wednesday and officials said at the time a second person was in custody. The prosecutor’s office did not release any information about any others involved in the incident.

Lacey was charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, one count of first-degree home invasion, one count of fourth-degree fleeing and eluding and five counts of felony firearm.

He was arraigned Saturday in 36th District Court and given a $500,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

A probable cause conference has been scheduled for next Monday.

Editor's note: This story previously reported that the prosecutor's office said Lacey was the father of the 2-year-old victim. The prosecutor's office has since issued a correction and the story has been udpated.
