Multiple injured after Detroit fire truck collides with car, house

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police are investigating after a Detroit fire truck collided with a car and hit a house on the city’s east side late Monday afternoon, sending four firefighters and one woman to the hospital.

The Detroit Fire Department tells WWJ crews were responding to a fire at a high-rise building on Jefferson around 5:30 p.m. on Monday when the truck collided with a Mercedes-Benz, before hitting a house in the area of Forest and McClellan.

The house did not sustain major damage in the incident.

One firefighter was injured after being ejected from the truck, and a 50-year-old woman driving the Mercedes was also injured. Rescue crews had to use the jaws of life to cut her out of her vehicle.

Officials tell WWJ all four firefighters have been released from the hospital, while the woman remains in critical condition.

Authorities did not say where the high-rise fire was located.

Detroit Police and the department’s fatal accident squad are investigating the cause of the crash.
