DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit High School placed on lockdown Friday afternoon after a student was seen with a gun.

According to a statement by the Detroit Public Schools Community District, it turns out it was a plastic gun, and no students were harmed.

The district said a student at Western International High School, on Scotten Ave. was arrested and will not be returning to the school.

The lockdown was implemented and students sheltered in place, as per safety protocols, at around 1 p.m. — shortly after the district said a social media post showed the student with the gun at the school.

The lockdown was lifted at around 2 p.m., and students were released for the day.

The district said in a statement that it "takes all threats seriously and remains committed to prioritizing the safety of our school community."

No further details were released.
