Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Carlous Skipper, Jr., of Detroit was ordered held without bond at his arraigned Thursday connection with the shooting death of 43-year-old Yousef Al-Gabri of Detroit.
The investigation began at around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, when Detroit police officers were dispatched to a home in the 16540 block of Wisconsin St., near Florence, where an SUV had crashed into a porch.
The driver, Al-Gabri, was removed by EMS from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It was determined that the victim died from multiple gunshot wounds, aurhotiies said.
According to investigators, Al-Gabri was working as an Uber driver early that morning when Skipper used a phone number a different name to call an Uber to the Wisconsin St. address.
When Al-Gabri pulled up, it's alleged that Skipper fired multiple shots with a handgun, fatally wounding Al-Gabi.
Skipper was arrested on Tuesday and charged Wednesday following an investigation by Detroit Police.
Skipper was remanded into custody following his arraignment in 36th District on one count of with First Degree Murder and one count of Felony Firearm. He will remain in the Wayne County Jail while he awaits his next court appearance, a Probable Cause Conference set for March 23.
He faces life in prison with parole if convicted as charged.
As for a motive for the slaying, that remains unclear at this time. Authorities have not yet said if the two men knew each other, or why Al-Gabri may have been targeted.
