
DEARBORN (WWJ) -- A Detroit man is jailed on numerous criminal charges in connection with lewd acts police say he perpetrated and recorded at a store in Dearborn. Now police are seeking to identify the victims.
Police first came in contact with the suspect, 31-year-old Steven Simmons, on Sunday, Feb. 11, after a woman called police to report she say him exposing himself in the parking lot of Target, on Ford Road.
Officers pulled Simmons over as he was leaving the lot in his white Jeep Wrangler, and he was taken into custody.
During the investigation, police said detectives found video on Simmons’ phone showing him following unidentified females through the aisles of the Dearborn Target store, "while performing lewd acts."
In numerous videos on Simmons’ phone, dating back to Dec. 3, 2023, police said Simmons appears to have recorded himself ejaculating on unidentified female victims' coats while in Target.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Simmons with three felony counts" Child Sexually Abusive Activity, Child Sexually Abusive Material and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime. Additionally, he is charged with Aggravated Indecent Exposure and Indecent Exposure, which are misdemeanors.
Simmons was arraigned in 18th District court last Friday and was given a $100,000 cash bond, with the condition he wear a GPS tether if he's released.
As the investigation continues, the Dearborn PD is asking anyone who may have witnessed these incident, who or believes they may be a victim of Simmons’ actions, to call police at 313-943-2241. “These incidents are disturbing and traumatic. Thanks to the quick actions of an alert community member, our officers were able to quickly apprehend this individual on-scene," said Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin, in a statement. "We urge the community to remain observant, and ask anyone who may have witnessed the behavior from this individual to contact our department immediately."
Simmons next court appears is a Probable Cause Conference set for Feb. 27. A booking photo for Simmons was not immediately available.
