PONTIAC (WWJ) -- A 20-year-old Detroit man is facing multiple felony charges in an armed robbery and kidnapping that ended in Pontiac.
Demarco Roosevelt Bradberry Jr. was arraigned Friday in the 50th District Court, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
The magistrate denied bond, and Bradberry was remanded to the Oakland County Jail.
The investigation began shortly before 6 p.m. on May 24, when deputies responded to the People’s Market at on Auburn Ave. in Pontiac, where an Eastpointe man reported that he had been kidnapped at gunpoint.
The 23-year-old victim told authorities he had driven to an address in Detroit to pick up a female acquaintance. Once he arrived, an unknown man entered his vehicle, brandished what appeared to be a handgun, and ordered him to drive to Pontiac under threat of being shot.
Upon arriving at the Pontiac market, the victim escaped the vehicle on foot and left the suspect behind.
Investigators identified Bradberry as the suspect and tracked him to a home in the 100 block of Carriage Circle in Pontiac.
While deputies and the Sheriff's Office Directed Patrol Unit monitored the residence, Bradberry left the home in a vehicle. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and arrested him without incident.
Law enforcement recovered a plastic, air-powered handgun from his waistband during the arrest.
The Sheriff's Office SWAT Team then executed a search warrant at the Carriage Circle residence, and Bradberry was taken into custody.
Bradberry has been charged with:
- Armed Robbery (Up to life imprisonment)
- Unlawful Imprisonment (15-year felony)
- Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent (5-year felony)
- Three counts of Felony Firearm -- Pneumatic Gun (2-year consecutive felony)
“Imagine how terrifying it would be to have someone jump in your car, point a gun at you and make you drive to a destination you had no idea where or what the outcome would be,” Sheriff Mike Bouchard said. “I’m proud of the work of our team to not only identify but locate and arrest this suspect so he can be brought to the bar of justice.”
