DETROIT (WWJ) A Detroit man was charged with Felony Murder and First-Degree Child Abuse for allegedly assaulting and killing his girlfriend's toddler-aged daughter on the city's west side one year ago.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Lovenia Spivey, 21, with the death of the three-year-old girl. According to prosecutors, Spivey "fatally assaulted the victim" on November 14, 2024. Paramedics arrived at a home on Riverview, in the area of Telegraph and Schoolcraft, around 2:40 a.m. and rushed the little girl to the hospital for treatment.
She died from her injuries four days later--on November 18, 2024. The Wayne County Medical Examiner listed her cause of death as "blunt force trauma to the head."
No further information was released on the circumstances leading up to the crime.
An investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to Spivey's arrest on November 14, 2025, just one day short of a year after the date of the crime.
Worthy said more details will be placed on record during his preliminary examination.
