DETROIT (WWJ) A Detroit man was charged with First Degree Murder and a list of additional crimes for a deadly shooting at a lounge on the city's west side.

Michael Harris, 42, is charged with killing Jalen Coats Stevens, 28, also of Detroit. The charges--brought by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy--also include Felony Firearm and Resisting and Obstructing an Officer.

Police said the shooting happened on January 4 at a lounge on Grand River at Provost, near Greenfield. Officers received a call shortly before 1:05 a.m. of a stabbing at the lounge. When they arrived on scene, their investigation indicated a dispute between Harris and Coats Stevens had escalated to gunfire. Harris allegedly pulled out a handgun, fired it and struck the victim in his left shoulder.

Paramedics pronounced Coats Stevens dead at the scene.

Harris was arraigned on Tuesday, January 6, and remanded to jail. He's due back in court on January 14.
