PONTIAC (WWJ) A Detroit man accused of shooting another man at a park in Pontiac was charged with multiple felonies, including Assault with Intent to Murder.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said its Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Ruben Contreras on Wednesday, September 30, "without incident."

According to sheriff's officials, the shooting happened at Jaycee Park on Walton near Joslyn on August 23. Dispatchers arrived at the park after a woman called dispatch and said her uncle had been shot.

Authorities determined the victim and several other people had been involved in a verbal argument that escalated to physical violence. At one point, Contreras allegedly produced a handgun and fired at the victim, striking him twice.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim near the back of the park, lying on the ground with wounds to his abdomen and right buttock. Deputies provided aid until first responders arrived.

The victim's condition was not released.

Contreras fled the park before law enforcement showed up, according to sheriff's officials.

Oakland County Prosecutors charged Contreras with six felonies: one count of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Felonious Assault, one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person and three counts of Felony Firearm.

A judge arraigned Contreras on Thursday, October 2, in 50th District Court and denied him bond.

He's due back in court on October 13.
