DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 58-year-old Detroit man has been charged with assaulting five women on the campus of Wayne State University.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Frederick Barnett stands accused of sexually assaulting one woman and touching four more on Monday, October 10, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at various location on the Wayne State University campus.
Detroit Police investigated the reported incidents of non-consensual hugging, touching and groping, and officers were able to identify and arrest Barnett later that day.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Barnett with one count of Fourth-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and four counts of Assault and Battery.
"This is unacceptable and should never happen on a college campus –- or anywhere for that matter," said Worthy in a press release. "These alleged actions are highly offensive. We look forward to resolving this in criminal court.”
The suspect was arraigned on Saturday, October 15, and given a $10,000 bond for the sexual assault charge along with a $5,000 bond for each assault and battery charge.
If released on bond, Barnett will be required to wear a GPS tether for house arrest. He has been ordered to have no contact with the sexual assault victim and is legally prohibited from Wayne State University or any college campus.
Barnett's Probable Cause Conference for the sexual assault charge is scheduled for Monday, October 24, before Judge Kenyetta Stanford-Jones. A Preliminary Examination will be held the following Monday, October 31.
The Pre-Trial for the assault and battery charge will take place Thursday, November 17, before Judge Lynise Bryant.
