(WWJ) A 42-year-old man faces life in prison with parole if convicted in the fatal shooting of a young woman in Detroit.

Jason Mikel Craighead of Detroit was arraigned on 36th District Court Monday on first degree premediated murder and other charged in connection with the death of 22-year-old Catrina Griffin.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Craighead and Griffin were arguing at a home in the 18500 block of Heyden just before 11 p.m. on Nov. 11, when the situation escalated.

It's alleged that Craighead pulled out a gun and shot Griffin.

Detroit police officers responded to a 911 call to the scene to find Griffin suffering from a gunshot wound, and she was taken by EMS to a local hospital where she died.

Along with the murder charge, Craighead is charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm.

He was remanded into custody in the Wayne County Jail without bond where he will await his next court date, a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for November 24.

Authorities did not say how Craighead and the victim knew each other or what they were arguing about.
