(WWJ) A young man faces the prospect of life in prison without parole after it's alleged he shot and killed a teenage girl in Detroit.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged 22-year-old Matthew James Reeves, IV, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Rayne Nicole Dennis, also of Detroit.

According to investigators, Reeves went to a home in the 9100 block of Beaconsfield, near I-94 and E. Outer Drive, on the evening of Nov. 8 -- to pick up his infant daughter. After a heated argument ensured between Reeves and the baby's mother, police say Reeves left the home and got a handgun from his car.

It's alleged Reeves then approached the house and fired his gun into the front room window, striking a 16-year-old girl.

The wounded teen, identified as the stepsister of Reeves' baby's mom, was taken to a local hospital where she died.

Reeves fled the scene after the shooting, but was arrested following an investigation by the Detroit Police Department.

Reeves was arraigned in 36th District Court Thursday on one count of First Degree Murder, four counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, Discharge of a Firearm in/at a Building Causing Death, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and five counts of Felony Firearm.

He was remanded to jail without bond where he will await his next court date, a Probable Cause Conference set for Nov. 25.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for the victim's burial.

The teen is described as "a loving daughter, sister, student, activist and a loyal friend" who had ambitions of being an entrepreneur and advocate for change in her community. Her slaying was "a true tragedy that will leave everlasting looming cloud over our family," the page reads. To donate, visit this link.
