Detroit media personality Charlie LeDuff arrested and charged with domestic violence for incident involving his wife

(WWJ) Charlie LeDuff, a well-known journalist and media personality in Metro Detroit, is facing a domestic violence charge.

According to a report published by the Detroit Free Press on Tuesday, the charge stems from an alleged incident involving LeDuff's wife at their home in Oakland County's Pleasant Ridge.

The newspaper reports LeDuff stood mute to the charge at this arraignment in 45th District Court, and was released on a $5,000 personal bond.

As a condition of his bond, Judge Jamie Powell Horowitz ordered that LeDuff have no contact with his wife, and he cannot go home.

Robert Ried, interim police chief for Pleasant Ridge, confirmed to the Detroit News that LeDuff was arrested for domestic violence Monday night, stating that LeDuff allegedly struck someone he lives with. No further details have yet been released about what happened.

Speaking to the Free Press, an attorney for LeDuff said his client "loves his family" and would like to keep this matter "as private as possible."

LeDuff, 57, has been a recognizable and sometimes controversial figure for many years in Detroit media, known for his flamboyant personality and unconventional reporting.

He was fired in the fall from his job as a Detroit News columnist amid bruhaha over a social media post in which he insulted Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel using suggestively vulgar terms.

Back in 2013, while employed as a reporter for Fox 2 News, LeDuff was accused of drunken public urination, fighting and biting a man at a party during the St. Patty's Parade in Detroit's Corktown, according to police. He later told reporters he didn't start the fight, and may have peed outside, but didn't remember exactly where.

LeDuff currently hosts the weekly podcast, "No BS News Hour With Charlie LeDuff."
