DETROIT (WWJ) -- Parents at one Detroit middle school are demanding answers after the disappearance of their principal.
Teachers and parents at Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy, on the city's west side, say they haven't seen Dr. Jeffrey Robinson for months.
Detroit Public Schools Community District officials now confirm he's been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation regarding what they called "verified misconduct."
Parents are asking for an explanation, as they said the lack of communication from leadership has only led to rumor, speculation and unease.
Speaking at a board meeting Tuesday might, Iesha Brown, whose son attends the school, said she was never informed.
She stressed how much the school community cares about Robinson.
"Dr. Robinson is a father figure, no only to our students, but some parents, as they are his old students," Brown said. "He has previous students enrolling their children at Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy; that speaks volumes on the type of principal and man that he is."
Melissa "Mama" Redmond, who works at the school, said parents should have been notified about what was going on.
"No robocall was sent out to our parents," she said. "So, of course, every single day I go to work I have parents and kids asking me questions, and the only thing I can say is he's put on administrative leave.
"Since there was no robocall, that's above my pay to even let the parents know. Because parents would like to understand why wasn't they informed that the principal was put on administrative leave?"
District officials have not released any details about Robinson's alleged misconduct.
