DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man suspected of killing a neighbor Sunday night over a dispute at a cookout has been arrested after a standoff with Detroit police on the city's west side Monday.

Police were called to a home on Pierson Street near Joy and Evergreen roads just before noon on Monday. The suspect had barricaded himself inside until about 4:15 p.m.

Many details surrounding the alleged murder, as well as the standoff, remain unclear, but officials say a toddler was inside the home with the suspect on Monday. The relationship between the child and the suspect was not known.

"This was some rather simple altercation at some type of barbecue," Detroit Police Chief James White told reporters after the standoff came to an end Monday. "I don't know the details as to why he was provoked into whatever happened, but that's one of the reasons we want to talk to him."

No details on the victim have been released.

The suspect's name was not immediately released.

Police had been asking residents in the area to stay inside their homes as they deal with the situation.
