DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are asking for help from the community as they search for a driver who hit and killed a man on a downtown sidewalk in February.
Authorities say the suspect was driving a red sedan around 9 p.m. on Feb. 19 they hit and killed a 56-year-old man who was walking north on the sidewalk of the I-75 Service Drive near Grand River.
After hitting the man, the suspect re-entered the roadway and was last seen headed south on the I-75 Service Drive.
Police on Monday released surveillance footage of the red sedan around the time of the crash, hoping someone recognizes the suspect's car. Officials did not release a possible make and model of the car.
Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or otherwise knows something about the hit-and-run to call the Detroit Police Department's Fatal Squad Unit at 313-596-2280.
