GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. (WWJ) — The Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety will launch a monthlong traffic and speed enforcement campaign starting May 1 to address ongoing speeding concerns and improve roadway safety.

Officers will increase patrols and conduct targeted enforcement in areas where speeding has been identified as a problem, including residential neighborhoods, school zones and major roadways.

The department says enforcement will focus on reducing excessive speeds and improving driver compliance with posted speed limits.

The upcoming campaign is intended to reduce dangerous driving behavior and prevent injuries. Police say speeding significantly reduces a driver’s ability to react and increases the likelihood and severity of crashes.

Authorities are reminding drivers to obey all posted speed limits, use caution in residential areas and school zones, allow adequate travel time, and remain alert and attentive while driving.

Residents should expect an increased police presence throughout the month. The department said the initiative is focused on both strict enforcement and voluntary compliance to improve overall traffic safety, adding that it appreciates the public’s cooperation.
