Detroit Police officer hospitalized, accidentally shot by partner on city's west side

DETROIT (WWJ) – A Detroit Police Officer is in the hospital after being accidently shot by his partner while responding to a call Sunday evening.

The reported shooting happened shortly before 5 p.m. on Prevost Street, in the area of W. Grand River and Fenkell on the city's west side, according to officials with the DPE.


The officer was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital where he was last reported in stable condition

Police said the officers were responding to a suicidal persons call in the area west of Greenfield when a dog from a home nearby broke loose from the neighbor, charging at the officers.

One officer fired a single shot at the dog, missing it and instead hitting his partner in the leg.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A large police presence was reported on the scene at the time of the incident.
