
(WWJ) The Detroit Riverfront has been named the best riverfront in the country by 2021 USA Today’s Reader’s Choice Awards contest.
“The Detroit Riverfront is a very special place for our city.” Matt Cullen, Board chairman of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, said in the release. “We have a tremendous year ahead and will continue to set the bar even higher as we finish up the East Riverfront and move to the west.”
Nominees for the USA Today 10best Reader’s Choice Awards were selected by 10best editors, together with a panel of urban planning experts.

20 river walks across the country participated in the competition, including: the Chicago Riverfront, Charles River Esplanade (Boston), San Antonio Riverwalk, Wilmington Riverwalk, and Smale Riverfront Park (Cincinnati.)

“Detroiters love their riverfront, and we are incredibly proud to be recognized on a national level.”

The Detroit Riverfront attracts about 3.5 million visitors each year and has remained open every day during the coronavirus pandemic. Since March, the use of the Detroit Riverfront has increased about 20% and the use of the Dequindre Cut, about 40%, according to the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.
