DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Detroit Riverwalk has made it a three-peat after being named the Best Riverwalk in America by USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for the third year in a row.

Detroit won the top spot over cities such Tampa, FL, Louisville, KY, Cincinnati, OH, San Antonio, TX, and Dubuque, IA, in a poll selected by USA TODAY 10Best editors, a panel of urban planning experts and the general public.

“The riverfront redevelopment in Detroit, a city with 14 miles of shoreline along the Detroit River, is one of the city's most exciting initiatives,” USA TODAY writes.

The Detroit Riverwalk stretches from Rosa Parks Blvd. to the Belle Isle Bridge, and attracts millions of visitors every year who come to walk, run, bike and enjoy the outdoors.

“This is a big year for the Detroit Riverfront,” Mark Wallace, the President & CEO of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy said in a press release. “People from throughout the community have helped shape this riverfront from the very beginning, and now, 20 years into the project, we can all celebrate our many successes. We have a lot of fun plans for this year and are looking forward to celebrating this milestone all year long.”

Along with the Riverfront’s honor, Campus Martius Park was also named the Best Public Square in the U.S. in this year’s poll, marking the second year it has been nominated but first time it's reached the top spot.
