DETROIT (WWJ) – Heads up, Metro Detroit drivers – if you're heading to or from Canada through Detroit this weekend, you won't be able to use the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel Sunday morning.

Officials announced Thursday the tunnel will be closed Sunday from 7-10 a.m. for an emergency response exercise.

The Ambassador Bridge will remain open on Sunday.

The annual exercise will be conducted by local first responders and employees of the tunnel, Canada Border Services Agency and Transit Windsor.

"This annual exercise is a critical part of testing and improving the Tunnel's emergency response procedures" said Neal Belitsky, CEO of the Detroit Windsor Tunnel, per a press release.

The tunnel is scheduled to reopen at 10 a.m., with normal operations expected to resume.

Late last month authorities conducted an emergency exercise downtown Detroit near Little Caesars Arena, Ford Field and Comerica Park.
