Detroit woman hit and killed by car in Royal Oak after her wheelchair falls forward into road

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – A 50-year-old Detroit woman is dead after she was hit by a vehicle in Royal Oak Monday afternoon.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was in the area of Woodward Avenue and Coolidge Highway shortly after 3 p.m. when she fell forward into the roadway, according to police.

That’s when she was hit by the vehicle. The 39-year-old driver remained at the scene, Royal Oak police officials said.

The woman was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

One northbound lane of Woodward and one southbound lane of Coolidge remained closed for several hours while police investigated.
