MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- Madison Heights Police are on the scene of a murder at a motel, where a woman was found dead.
Police tell WWJ that detectives and a team from the medical examiner’s office are currently on the scene of the Roadway Inn on Stephenson Highway, south of 14 Mile Road.
Authorities were called to the location shortly before 5:30 a.m. Monday on a report of a noise disturbance.
The victim -- identified only as a 29-year-old black female resident of Detroit -- was then located in a room suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man from Detroit, was found hiding nearby behind a dumpster at a gas station located at 14 Mile and Stephenson.
He was taken into custody by police and a handgun allegedly used in the shooting was recovered nearby.
Officers determined the victim resided at the motel with another man who was not at the scene.
Detectives from the Madison Heights Police Department are still investigating and will forward the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review and authorization of appropriate charges.
The name of the victim will not be released until all notifications have been made.
