Dilapidated Mount Clemens hotel used for drugs and prostitution to be torn down, making way for new apartments

MT. CLEMENS (WWJ) -- A run-down, old hotel in downtown Mount Clemens is being demolished, making way for a $20 million residential development.

WWJ's Charlie Langton reports the former Victory Inn, at North River Rd. and Gratiot Ave., has sat vacant since it was damaged in a fire in 2020. He was on the scene as the wrecking crew prepared to begin its work, Tuesday morning.

Police said the place, which previously been Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn, has long been known as an eyesore and a trouble spot — used by drug dealers and prostitutes in recent years.

"A lot of crime," Langton said. "You can see it's been boarded up; there's some graffiti on the other side of it. Really, the only thing that's left is this marquee. You can see weekly rates: $199. But it's all gonna be torn down."

Plans for the site call for a new, four-story 100 unit apartment complex, to including affordable housing. The new building expected to open by the end of 2026, or in 2027.
