(WWJ) Michigan conservation officers are asking for tips in a senseless case of poaching in Macomb County.
According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, two trumpeter swans were found with multiple gunshot wounds at Wetzel State Park, on Sunday, Dec. 6. Officers suspect the swans — an adult and a juvenile — were shot while attempting to land on a pond and then discarded in the nearby tall brush on Friday, Dec. 4 or Saturday, Dec. 5.
The trumpeter swan is a threatened species in Michigan and is illegal to hunt, according to the DNR.
Wetzel State Park is a popular recreational area in Macomb County, and officials are hoping someone who was there enjoying the outdoors last weekend saw something that could help them identify the poachers.
Anyone with tips or information is asked to call or text the DNR's Report All Poaching Hotline at 1-800-292-7800. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could qualify for a cash reward.
