DETROIT (WWJ) — With Michigan once again being a key battleground state in this November’s Presidential Election, Republican candidate Donald Trump is bringing his campaign back to the state again next week.

The Trump campaign on Thursday announced he will speak Monday at a conference of the National Guard Association of the United States taking place at Huntington Place in Downtown Detroit.

This will be the former president’s seventh trip to Michigan this year, most recently visiting Howell on Tuesday, where he spoke about crime and safety to a small crowd of mostly police officers.

The National Guard Association of the United States’ General Conference & Exhibition is a yearly event featuring Pentagon leaders and lawmakers. During presidential election years, the association invites both the Democratic and Republican nominees, according to a release from the Trump campaign.

“Members of the National Guard are more than defenders of democracy, we’re all participants,” said retired Maj. Gen. Francis McGinn, the association president. “We want to know how the next administration will support the National Guard and whether the Guard will continue its prominent role in the National Defense Strategy.”

It was not immediately clear Thursday whether Democratic nominee Kamala Harris will attend the conference.

Harris was scheduled to formally accept the nomination at the Democratic National Convention Thursday night in Chicago. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is also expected to speak Thursday.
