WOODHAVEN (WWJ) -- Racially insensitive signs were placed outside of a Downriver police department on Easter morning -- but authorities are saying the person who did it has every right to protest.

Woodhaven police said they've received several calls and complaints in regards to a person holding signs at the corner of Hall and West roads that read, "Black Lives Don't Matter" and "Native American Lives Don't Matter."

Alongside those two signs, the person also has been seen waving a Confederate flag.

Officials state this individual is protesting what he believes to be unfair treatment by the Woodhaven PD and the 33rd District Court. No further details have been provided.

Although the police said they understand that the man's message is not coming across as intended, and has even offended others, they say that the Constitution of the United States and of Michigan provide him the rights to protest.

The Woodhaven PD has also asked the public to not confront the person, and to just ignore them.

The signs, shown on WDIV-TV, have since been removed.
