FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A 28-year-old woman is dead in Frenchtown Township after police say she was hit by a vehicle while walking across Telegraph Road on Friday evening.

Michigan State Police said they're continuing to investigate the fatal pedestrian crash, which occurred shortly before 7:20 p.m. on Feb. 24.

Troopers from the Monroe Post responded to the scene on Telegraph Road near Kimberly Estates and discovered the victim, a 28-year-old woman from Newport, had been hit by a driver headed southbound.

First responders rushed to provide lifesaving measures, but the victim died at the scene, state police confirmed.

"The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old male from Rockwood, and the passenger, a 22-year-old male from Newport, were uninjured," troopers stated in a press release. "Preliminary investigation does not indicate speed or alcohol to be factors in the crash."

Troopers received additional help at the scene from the Michigan State Police First District Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Unit, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Frenchtown Fire Department, and Monroe Community Ambulance.

The fatal crash remains under investigation with MSP at this time. No further details were released.
