ROCHESTER (WWJ) A passenger car and a Rochester school bus collided while students were enroute to a competition event, school officials said.

School officials said the crash happened on the morning of Saturday, January 24. Two Rochester Community School District buses were transporting 60 students to a DECA competition in Lakeland, Michigan.

The circumstances surrounding the crash, as well as the exact time and the location, were not released.

"No serious student injuries have been reported at this time," Superintendent Nicole Russo said in a statement.

According to Russo, first responders arrived on scene. Students returned to Stoney Creek High School where teachers and chaperones contacted their parents.

WDIV-Channel 4 reports the driver of the passenger car-- a Livingston County man-- died from his injuries. However, WWJ Newsradio 950 has not confirmed the death.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America-- a nonprofit that educates students on business concepts to prepare them for college and careers in marketing, hospitality, finance and management.
