Detroit police searching for suspect wanted in serial armed robberies

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Police Department is searching for a man in connection with two armed robberies at local businesses and have asked for the public's assistance.

Police were altered on Feb. 2 at approximately 12:25 p.m., that a man had walked into the Dollar General on the 1500 block of E. Jefferson, and demanded the cashier open the register. The suspect acted as though he had a weapon -- he took an undisclosed amount of money and fled from the store in a black Jeep with an Arkansas license plate, identified as # ACA60X.

No injuries were reported.

About 40 minutes later, police were made aware of another armed robbery took place at the Family Dollar in the 2200 black of W. Davison. The suspect walked into the store and demanded money from the cash register. The man also acted as if he had a weapon and was able to leave with a sum of money.

Authorities strongly believe the two crimes were committed by the same suspect and have released information in hopes the community can assist with locating him.

The suspect is described as a male, around 35 years old and standing 6'2" tall. He was last seen wearing a dark colored skull cap, a surgical mask, blue jeans and a colored zip-up coat.
