(WWJ) -- Michigan’s former Chief Medical Executive is stepping into a new role.
Dr. Joneigh Khaldun announced on Twitter Monday that she has accepted the position of Vice President and Chief Health Equity Officer for CVS Health.

Khaldun, who provided updates on the COVID-19 pandemic alongside Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for the better part of 18 months, stepped down from her role as the state’s top doc last month.
Khaldun spearheaded an initiative with the state to address racial disparities in COVID-19 outcomes. President Joe Biden then appointed her to the COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force.
She will oversee how the company can better serve minorities and other underserved communities.
Khaldun said on Twitter she is “excited to work with such dedicated and accomplished colleagues already driving health equity outcomes.”
“Dr. Khaldun will lead the strategy to advance health equity for patients, members, providers, customers, and communities served across all lines of the CVS Health business,” a press release from the company says. “She and her team will focus on culturally competent care delivery, ensuring it is fully integrated into the design and development of clinical and population health programs, products, services, interactions and communications. She will also work collaboratively with the broader health care system to advance health equity and better support underserved communities.”
