DETROTI (WWJ) -- There's some strong to severe weather in the forecast for Southeast Michigan, with thunderstorms expected to come in waves over the next couple of days.

To start things off, WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore says they're tracking three separate rounds of storms on Wednesday: One late in the morning, one in the early afternoon, and another in the evening/overnight hours.

As for the first round: "It still is in my thought process here today that the worst of these storms are going to stay just to the north and east of the city (of Detroit)," DeVore said. "I think western and southwestern and southern suburbs may see a shower or thunderstorm."

Heavy downpours and strong, potentially damaging wind gusts are expected, with large hail also possible.

For the first round, the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portion of Metro Detroit — including Warren, Sterling Heights and Troy — until 10:45 a.m.

There are also Marine Warnings issued for boaters on Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River.

After a little break on hot and humid Thursday, DeVore said Metro Detroiters can expect more thunderstorms late Thursday afternoon, into the evening.

The NWS warns that large hail, damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately when severe weather hits, and remember: if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

The NWS said Metro Detroiters can also expect torrential rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

As for the heat, DeVore said these storms will knock the temperature down a little bit into the low 80s for Friday, with another thunderstorm possible Friday night.

The good news for the weekend: DeVore said it looks like things will dry our for Saturday and Sunday, with some sunshine and highs in the upper 70s.
