DETROIT (WWJ) -- Two women are dead and a man is hospitalized after a fiery, two-car crash Thursday morning, on Detroit's east side.

Detroit Police officials said a 911 call came in about the crash, at Mount Elliot St. and E Forest Ave., shortly after 3 a.m. on Nov. 11.

A preliminary investigation found that a black Ford Fusion and a white Chrysler 300 collided with each other at high speeds, and the driver of the Ford was ejected.

Police said the Ford passenger was trapped in the car when it caught on fire. Both women in the car were produced dead on the scene.

The man driving the Chrysler was pulled from his car and taken to a local hospital. There's no word on the man's condition at this time.

The names of the women who died were not immediately released.

Police said this was a high-speed crash, although further circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell reports one of the cars involved also took out the electric box powering the traffic light at the Mt. Eliot/E. Forest intersection. Police have set up four-way stop signs until it is repaired.
