Driver issued citation after hitting Detroit police officer, sideswiping car at gas station

DETROIT (WWJ) — A driver has been issued a citation after hitting a Detroit police officer at a gas station on the city’s west side.

The incident happened Monday afternoon at a Marathon gas station on Warren Avenue near the Southfield Freeway.

Police officials say the officer was outside his vehicle when he was hit. The officer’s car was sideswiped.

The officer was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The driver remained on-scene and was cooperating with police. Officials said the driver was issued a citation.

No other details surrounding the incident were immediately released.
