TROY (WWJ) -- A young Warren resident is hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash along the border of Sterling Heights and Troy.
Police from both Troy and Sterling Heights responded to the scene at around 9:30 p.m. Monday, at the intersection of Dequindre and Maple roads, and determined that the crash had happened on the Troy side.
According to Troy Police, an investigation found that an 18-year-old driver from Warren was speeding on southbound Dequindre in a white Ford Mustang, when the hit the curb with a rear tire and lost control.
The Mustang swerved to the left and crossed over into the northbound lanes of Dequindre, police said, where it crashed into a black Cadillac driven by an 18-year-old Sterling Heights resident.
Police said the Mustang driver was taken by EMS to a hospital for treatment of "serious life-threatening injuries."
The Cadillac driver was treated on the scene by Alliance Mobile Health for minor injuries.
Police said neither of the drivers was wearing a seatbelt, and that was a factor in the crash. Dequindre was closed for about three hours for the on-scene investigation.
No names were released.
