TROY (WWJ) -- A Detroit man could face jailtime after he was allegedly caught driving drunk and recklessly through Troy.
Troy Police officers pulled the suspect over at around 2:30 a.m. last Monday, after they said he was seen "speeding and weaving" on E. 14 Mile Rd., near Dequindre Rd.
Officers approached the 48-year-old driver, behind the wheel of a 2020 Blazer SUV, who told them he was following his wife home from an event where he'd had just one drink.
After the man "performed poorly" on several sobriety evaluations, a breathalyzer test showed he had a .164% BAC (blood alcohol concentration), according to police, which is more than twice the legal limit to drive in Michigan.
The driver was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-up where he was read his Chemical Test rights and refused to take a breath test.
A search warrant for a blood test was granted, the man's blood was drawn by medical personnel, and the case was turned over to the Troy PD Detective Bureau, police said.
Expected drunken driving charges are pending against the man, as police await results of the blood test.
Under Michigan's "Super Drunk Laws," drivers with a BAC more than twice the state's legal limit of .08% may face stiffer penalties, including up to 180 days in jail if convicted as charged.
The man's name was not released.
