DETROIT (WWJ) - An hours-long freeway closure followed an alleged road rage incident that left a drunk driver injured and a suspect on the run.

Michigan State Police (MSP) said a 30-year-old man was driving home from a bar around 5:15 Monday morning, got onto I-94 at Van Dyke and then somehow got into a road rage incident. The victim told police he was then shot, but was able to drive himself home.

That man then went to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition.

WWJ's Charlie Langton, live on the scene, said MSP told him that the victim was so drunk he was unable to give them any sort of route or travel information to narrow down the scene. This lead to the reason why multiple troopers and a K-9 Officer had to canvas the large area for a lengthy period of time.

Eastbound I-94 at Van Dyke was closed for three-and-a-half hours following the incident. The area re-opened just before 9 a.m.

The only description the victim was able to give police was that the suspect was driving a dark sedan.

MSP are now asking the public to share any information they might have about the incident. If you or anyone you know were in the area at that time, you are urged to call police.
