TROY (WWJ) -- An Eastpointe man could face jailtime after police say they caught him driving drunk in Troy last weekend.
At around 12:50 a.m. on Saturday. Oct. 26, Troy Police said officers were at the Panera Bread on Coolidge Highway on an unrelated call when a 2015 Hyundai Sonata pulled in.
Police watched as the driver got out of the car and walked into a wooded area adjacent to the Panera parking lot.
While officers approached the vehicle, police said the man came out of the woods and started walking back toward his car.
Officers asked the man what he was up to, and he admitted to peeing in the woods, police said.
While speaking with the driver, officers "noted he had bloodshot and glassy eyes, his speech was slurred, and there was a strong odor of intoxicants emitting from his person," according to the police report.
After the man allegedly failed some field sobriety tests, a breathalyzer test showed results of .168% BAC (blood alcohol concentration).
The driver was then arrested and taken to the Troy Police lock-up where a breath test showed results of .215% and .229%, police said.
The driver was issued a citation for Operating with a Blood Alcohol Content of .17% or More.
Under Michigan's "Super Drunk Laws," drivers with a BAC more than twice the state's legal limit of .08% face stiffer penalties, including up to 180 days in jail if convicted.
