TROY (WWJ) -- A Troy man is facing charges after police say he crashed into multiple cars while driving drunk last Wednesday night.

The 53-year-old driver was arrested the night of Oct. 22, after Troy Police officers responded to calls about a possible drunk driver in a 2016 Jeep Patriot, that had struck multiple vehicles.

Upon arrival, in the 2300 block of Golfview Drive, south of Big Beaver Rd., officers found the suspect vehicle that has heavy crash damage from hitting a parked vehicle, police said.

Speaking with the driver, officers noted "he had slurred speech and there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath," according to the police report.

The driver then allegedly failed a field sobriety test before testing at .162% on a preliminary breath test.

The man was then arrested and taken to the Troy Police lock-up, where a Chemical Breath Test showed results of .242% and .234%. The driver was issued a citation for Operating with a Blood Alcohol Content of .17% or More, and Failure to Stop and Report a Crash with an Unattended Vehicle.

Under Michigan's "Super Drunk Laws," drivers with a BAC more than twice the state's legal limit of .08% face stiffer penalties, including up to 180 days in jail if convicted as charged.

The man's name and arraignment information were not immediately released.

No injuries were reported.
